Here's something a bit different. Aleatico is a rare, wildly aromatic grape and this is a cracking example of it, wild fermented and given seven months in old oak to settle. It's all about the perfume, roses and elderflower leaping out of the glass, backed by something that genuinely reminds me of and a tart little edge of stewed rhubarb. Fragrant, aromatic and endlessly drinkable, it's exactly the kind of leftfield wine we love getting our hands on. - Aaron C
Vino Friendo is a garagiste Canberra-based producer making expressive, lo-fi wines with an emphasis on drinkability and minimal intervention. Working with fruit sourced from Canberra and surrounding cool-climate regions, the wines are made simply and intuitively, with native fermentation and a light hand in the cellar. The range is playful and contemporary in feel, favouring freshness, bright fruit and savoury detail over extraction or polish.
