Tasting Notes
Andrew Marks, The Wanderer, has a pretty impressive pedigree in the wine world. He is the son of Gembrook Hill owners Ian and June Marks, but he has also made his own way in this competitive industry. His entry level Pinot Noir is from the Lower Yarra Valley, otherwise known as the Floor. It's simpler than the Upper, with more fruit drive. It may be simpler but it is by no means simple. There's good clean cherry-like fruit among some spice notes. Nice line of fruit tannin brings the wine to life and a subtle, sweetly spiced oak lick balances the texture. Over-delivers. - Chris L
The Wanderer is the side project for Gembrook Hill winemaker, Andrew Marks. While all the fruit for Gembrook Hill comes from the small vineyard planted by his parents in the 1980s, The Wanderer wines offer Andrew the chance to explore the differing terroirs of the Yarra Valley, as well as experiment with different winemaking techniques.
His skill and intuition as a winemaker shine through in the wines, speaking clearly of their place, whilst remaining captivatingly delicious. These are wines that we'd wander a fair way for.
