Bindi

Michael Dhillon needs no introduction.

The Pinot Noirs from Bindi are legendary.

From the coldest wine region on the mainland, Macedon is windswept and wild, and its granitic base is unforgiving. Yet the Dhillon family's select sites shelter the vines, seeking out mudstone, sandstone, quartz, volcanic soils and water-retaining clays. The close-planted vines quadruple the work required by regularly-spaced vineyards, and whilst yields are lessened, this hard work is rewarded in incredible intensity of fruit.

But whilst his Pinots are so well sought out, and rightly so, we have always noted that the Chardonnays are not to be missed, with Michael's hand resulting in beautiful tension, texture and length across the cuvées. Michael habitually picks much earlier than his Heathcote neighbours for his dark and brooding Shiraz, and despite the cool climate, the rocky red soil of Col Mountain brings a to warmth to his vines for a spicy and seductive Grenache. - Peta W

MADA

Tasting 1st July

3pm - 6pm

Hamish Young’s passion for the Canberra District began when Eden Road Wines relocated the young Kiwi to Murrumbateman in his role as operational
winemaker, working alongside Nick Spencer on their celebrated “Long Road”.

Hamish established MADA Wines in 2015, with an ethos of minimal intervention to really showcase the cool-climate freshness of the varietals he bottles, particularly in his single vineyard, brown label series. Working with likeminded growers across Canberra, Hilltops and Tumbarumba who share his passion for the region, Hamish believes "good people grow good fruit". Hamish plays around with whole bunch, a little skin-contact and fermentation in
ceramic eggs.

MADA Wines are bright and savoury, approachable but with nuanced complexity, all with balance in their acidic drive from the cool capital.

Château de Bonnezeaux

Nature vs nurture. Neglected vines for over 30 years, Château de Bonnezeaux was brought back to life by the nurturing biodynamic care of Guyonne Saclier de la Bâtie.

And life is certainly thriving in the Château: where other vineyards were dutifully sprayed, the 30 years of chemical-free neglect has resulted in an incredible biodiversity, both amongst the vines and beneath the soil.

The cult wines are just as vivacious as the vineyards from which they were conceived: mineral, complex with an alluring
wild side. But they are elusive: get them before they disappear! - Peta W
