Blood Moon Tasting

Saturday 28th

3pm-6pm

Join us this Saturday as we taste through the excellent wines of Blood Moon. Blood Moon was established in 2014 by Matt Aulich - a former guitarist turned winemaker.

Matt sources fruit from responsible growers mostly in northern, western and southern Victoria and works with both French and Italian varieties. Matt makes wines with a sense of time and place in low volumes with a minimal-intervention approach in the cellar.

"minimal intervention, maximum love
conceived under a blood moon."

These are the wines that we'll be pouring on the day:

2024 Blood Moon Moonrise Fiano Vermentino

2024 Blood Moon Seeker Chardonnay

2023 Blood Moon Dream of a Dream Pinot Noir

2023 Blood Moon Sang Des Etoiles Sangiovese

2023 Blood Moon Autumn Moon Shivers Nero D'Avola

These are some exciting and affordable wines from some great sites in Victoria, come down to the store and check these out!

Gentle Folk

Gentle Folk are a small family winery based in the Basket Range of Adelaide Hills, farming 8 hectares across 5 different sites. Gareth and Rainbo Belton were both marine scientists before their love of food and wine dragged them to the Adelaide Hills where they started Gentle Folk in 2012 after spending some time with James Erskine of Jauma and Alex Schulkin of The Other Right. The estate has slowly gown over the past decade or so to where they are today, with Gareth winning the 2025 Real Review Rising Star of the Year!

The region of Adelaide Hills has had vines planted as early as the 1870s but did not experience a revival until a century later due to the difficulties of cool climate viticulture back in those times. The vineyards are located between 400m up to 650m above sea level with warm, dry summers but cool and rainy winters, with some areas like Summertown and Piccadilly receiving over 1000mm of annual rainfall. The higher altitude is beneficial for extending the growing season to allow more time for flavour and colour compounds to develop while retaining natural acidity. Gentle folk farm their vineyards organically, with some biodynamic influence with the hopes of preserving the natural beauty of the region. To help keep the soil and vines in top shape, they use green manure and flowering cover crops, grazing animals and various organic fertilisers.

We tasted through a big range of the Gentle Folk wines the other week and loved them so much we bought most of what we tasted. We have the ‘24 ‘Riesling’ - an off-dry expression from their Scary Gully vineyard which spends 6 months in Terracotta egg and old oak. The ‘24 ‘Sauvignon Blanc’ is fermented and matured in old oak and proves once again why Adelaide Hills is one of the best regions for this variety in the country. The ‘24 ‘Chardonnay’ is sourced from a few sites and is aged in an array of wood, of which 20% is new. The ‘24 ‘Sangiovese’ is a lighter and fresh expression of the Tuscan grape which is aged in a combination of hogsheads, terracotta and foudre for 8 months where as the ‘24 ‘Shiraz’ comes from some of the best sites in the Hills and spends 8 months in hogsheads, 20% of which are new. The ‘24 ‘Pinot Noir’ is blended from all of their Pinot sites and spends 8 months in French oak barriques of which 15% are new. This Pinot punches well above its weight. Finally the ‘23 ‘Monomeith Pinot Noir’ comes from a sensational single site; one of the coolest in the region and is comprised of 20% whole bunches and spends 10 months in oak, of which 20% is new. This is one of the best producers from Adelaide Hills that continue to put out great wines year after year, stock up on these for winter!
