Elanto Tasting
Saturday 30th
3pm-6pm
Join us this Saturday for a tasting of Mornington Peninsula's Elanto wines.
Elanto started as a venture between Sandro Mosele and Tony Todaro who met at a French wine tasting and instantly connected. They were both interested in working with a high-density vineyard with an easterly aspect and well-drained soils conducive to deep roots. They found this wonderful site in Balnarring with a southeast aspect and volcanic soils and with the help of French soil scientist - Claude Bourguignon, were convinced of the potential of this site to produce spectacular, distinctive wines.
Elanto only produce 2 wines which is what we'll be pouring this Saturday:
Elanto Chardonnay 2023
Elanto Pinot Noir 2023
I have already tasted these wines and I'm going to try and come in on my day off to taste them again. If you think it might not be "worth it" to come to a tasting with only 2 wines on pour, you'd be sorely mistaken. Don't miss out on the chance to try some of the best new wines out of the Mornington Peninsula!Gamay
Gamay is the juicier, better value cousin of Pinot Noir that makes an excellent wine able to be paired with all kinds of dishes and is one of the few reds that you would actually want to drink in summer.
Gamay is a light-bodied red that originates from the rolling granite hills of Beaujolais - part of the broader Burgundy zone and is known for producing reds that are floral, earthy and red-fruited, much like its cousin Pinot that grows slightly further north in the Côte-d'Or. Unfortunately, the price of Burgundy has gone through the roof in recent years; fortunately, Gamay has not and still remains relatively affordable, even at the very top of the quality pyramid. Gamay is able to produce beautiful wines at a price point that Pinot rarely can and are dangerously easy to drink. We’ve selected some examples of Gamay below, 4 from Beaujolais and 2 from Australia that we believe are exceptional for the price. Any of you that love Pinot should definitely consider some of the below wines and be converted - your palate and wallet will thank you!Ciù Ciù
Ciù Ciù winery was established in 1917 by husband and wife Natalino and Anna Bartolomei right outside the tiny medieval village of Offida. The hills near Offida and its surrounding villages between the rivers Tesino and Tronto are ideal for the production of top quality wines. Seabreezes coming from the east blows on the mountain peaks and vines and blends with aromas, colors, and tastes, creating a beautiful and unique landscape.
Ciu Ciu‘s organic wines are the pure expression of care and tradition. They are the result of research and quality both in vineyards and cellars. They are also the result of a natural ecosystem and a unique and unparalleled terroir. Ciù Ciù are committed to sustainability in all forms, from ecological sustainability involving biodiversity in the vineyards, organic production and good manufacturing processes, through to care for their employees' rights and economic sustainability striving for a responsible, sustainable level of growth. This is a great winery through and through.
We've recently stocked up on our favourite wines from this producer in time for Christmas as these are some of the most popular Italian wines in the store and always sell out quickly. We have the '23 'Falerio Bianco' which is a blend of Pecorino, Passerina and Trebbiano grown in the hills of Ascoli Piceno roughly 300m above sea level. This is a vibrant, fresh and floral wine that can be enjoyed immediately and best drunk with seafood or light white sauced pasta. We also have the '23 'Bacchus Piceno Rosso' which is a 50/50 blend of Montepulciano and Sangiovese grown in the Marche hills and is a full-bodied, juicy red, best enjoyed with some barbequed meats this summer. These are some exceptional and fantastic value wines that will be perfect to bring to Christmas lunches and summer parties.
