Great-Value Wines

We’re following up this week with some more great-value wines for you to try. A lot of these wines are store favourites that fly out the door like the Mount Trio Riesling, Ciello Bianco, Cantina Tollo, Marques de Tezona and of course Jaya. La Valentina is a relatively recent addition to the store that we believe represents sensational value and the Chaffey Bros is another newer addition that is quite different to anything you would expect in this price range. We’ve made sure to cover a range of styles here so we have some value for everyone. Pickup some of these for yourself to see why they are so popular in the store or re-stock on these if you are one of the culprits!

Tenute Orestiadi

Tenute Orestiadi started in 2008 in Belìce Valley, in Gibellina, Sicily where Mediterranean scents and colours intertwine with myth and art. Tenute Orestiadi aim to merge viticulture and art from 2 different sides of Sicily, Gibellina in the west and Etna in the east. Orestiadi highlight and enhance the qualities of the indigenous grapes of the areas they work with respect for the environment and local tradition.

In the territory of Gibellina you can find three types of land: the Red earth, rich in sand and skeleton, ideal for growing red grape varietals such as Perricone; there Black Earth on the rolling hills of the Trapani hinterland, resistant to drought and ideal for numerous varieties of both red and white grape vines such as Syrah and Nero d'Avola; there White Earth present in the hills of the Belìce Valley, characterized by a high component of limestone and gypsum and ideal for the cultivation of autochthonous white varietals such as Grillo, Zibibbo, Inzolia, Catarratto.

The soil of Etna is both lava and clay, made up of the "gghiara", as the people of Etna pronounce it, and the result of numerous eruptions that have occurred over the centuries, leaving dust to settle on the fields and magma to crystallise. This has made it a place with absolutely unique mineral characteristics, where, at 550 meters a.s.l., native varietals of the volcano are grown, such as Nerello Mascalese, Nerello Cappuccio, Carricante and Moscato dell'Etna.

We've got 3 different wines from this producer working across a multitude of terroirs to produce authentic and well-priced wines. We have the '23 'Molino a Vento Grillo' which is grown on the vineyards of the hilly countryside of Gibellina, 300 meters above sea level. We also have the '23 'Molino a Vento Nerello Mascalese' from the vineyards cultivated on the red soils of Western Sicily, rich in sand and skeleton. This undergoes a small maceration to draw out aromatic complexity and aged in a combination of steel and wood. Finally, the '23 'Molino a Vento Nero d'Avola' grown on the black lands near the Vecchia Gibellina, at an altitude between 100 and 300 meters above sea level and is also aged in a combination of steel and wood. These are some sensational Italian wines at incredible prices - stock up on these as your next daily drinker!
