HANDPICKED: SINAPIUS CLEM BLANC FIELD BLEND

This fresh field blend is a perfect Spring wine. This is a co-fermented field blend of six white varieties—Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Grüner Veltliner, and Chardonnay Musqué with varying degrees of skin contact up to 7 days creating a beautiful copperish salmon colour. Fresh, floral and fruity with a touch of reduction - surprisingly complex and enjoyable with a charcuterie board or just by itself in the park or by the pool. Sinapius prove that they're one of the rising stars of Tassy with this gem!

THE OCCASION EDIT

Did we mention it's spring?

Spring does something strange to the calendar. All of a sudden there are more people around, more afternoons that run on into the evening, and a great deal more wine getting opened than there was in July. That is the good part. The less good part is that drinking with a group gets expensive quickly, and it is never much fun being the person quietly working out how many bottles is too many.

So this one is about the other end of the list. When you are sharing, the wine that matters is not the expensive one, it is the one you are perfectly happy to open a third bottle of. Everything here is $30 or less, all of it is on the lighter, fresher side of things, and none of it tastes like it was made down to a price. That last bit is the hard part and it is the whole reason these six made the cut.

The '22 'Sub Aqua Club Field Blend' from Small Town is a Barossa field blend off unirrigated vines, all citrus and orchard fruit and very good cold. The '26 'Hunter Valley Semillon' from Tyrrell's is a classic done properly and at this price it is almost silly, and the '21 'Chairman's Reserve Chardonnay' from Goona Warra is proper Victorian Chardonnay with a bit of age on it already. For something with more grip there is the '26 'Friulano' from MDI, the Quealy side project up in Mildura, organically grown with eleven days on skins. Then the '24 'Les Dauphins Rose' out of the Cotes du Rhone, dry and easy and hard to argue with, and the '23 'Great Southern Pinot Noir' from Mount Trio, which at $19 is the best value red in the shop by a long way. Grab a few of these and get some people around!
