2021 Release
We are currently being spoiled with a host of great releases from Europe including one of our most anticipated allocations each year, Joh. Jos. Prüm.
The Prüm wines are a gateway into the magical world of Mosel Riesling - a style that when done right, is right up there with some of the best experiences wine has to offer.
Prüm has been producing wines from the top parcels in the Mosel for over a hundred years from old, ungrafted, low yielding vines, harvested at perfect ripeness for each Pradikat. Natural, slow ferments and gentle lees ageing build richness and mild reduction which has become a hallmark of the Prüm wines. Please do decant.
I attended the trade release and we tasted the wines accompanied with recordings of Dr Katharina Prüm explaining the different sites and challenges they faced during vintage. It was fascinating as always to listen to her breakdown of all the tiny nuances that each site offers whilst tasting the wines. I am always blown away how different each of the wines are and even more so in a year like 2021. She compares this release to the wines they produced in the 80s and 90s when her father Manfred was at the helm which were much finer and more precise than the more opulent Prüm releases the last few years. This meant that they were unable to make certain wines due to how cool the vintage was and there were also no Goldkapsels produced in 2021. The cooler conditions meant the required levels of botrytis for these wines were never achieved.
The classic Prüm flare is still evident across all the wines, especially the Ausleses which handle the residual sugar with amazing grace and elegance. I was shocked, as was everybody else at my table to taste how dry these wines were and it was a common thread across all the wines. It's a drier vintage at every level for Prüm and the wines are fresher, lighter and more precise than I have ever tasted. A remarkable vintage to be able to offer and a style we may not see from Prüm for a long time given how unique this vintage was. - Pete L

In-Store Tasting:
Piedmont vs Tuscany
This Saturday, 22nd of July
3pm - 6pm
Do you prefer a Dolcetto or a Sangiovese?
A King of a Nebbiolo or the Super Power of a Tuscan?
This Saturday we taste from two of the largest and most powerful wine regions of Italy: Piedmont and Tuscany.
Piedmont in Italy's northwest sits, as its name suggests, at the foot (pied) of the Alps (mont for mountain) and the influence on the climate from both the warm Mediterranean and the ice-cold Alps results in the infamous fog that shrouds the majestic King of all grapes, Nebbiolo.
Sangiovese on the other hand, loves the romance of living Under the Tuscan Sun, as do those opulent French varietals found today in the extravagant Super Tuscan blends.
Join us tomorrow as we taste iconic reds from each region.

It's that time of year again!
WINE FAIR TIME!
ANNANDALE CELLAR DOOR
The festival of all things vinous is back and this time we are bringing the winemakers to our own backyard in Annandale!
We've handpicked a whole bunch of our favourite producers and asked them to transport the Cellar Door experience to our own Annandale Cellar Door @ Annandale Cellars for the day!
From NSW, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia, the producers will be on hand to chat about their wines as they pour them for you themselves. A great chance to quiz them on their craft (something they all love to discuss), or just talk about the weather (also something they all love to discuss). Rain, hail or shine, it won't stop the winemakers, and it is certain to a great day out!
Tickets are just $30 and include a Riedel tasting glass, yours to take home.

Jacqui Murphy, Winery Manager at Two Paddocks
Friday 4th August
7pm
Russo & Russo, 158 Enmore Rd, Enmore
Tickets $245
~~~ ~~~ ~~~
30 years ago, in the same year he introduced us to the world's favourite paleontologist Dr Alan Grant, actor Sam Neill joined an early wave of winegrowers planting sheep paddocks to vines in New Zealand's Central Otago.
He hoped his 5 acre paddock of Pinot Noir would produce wine good enough to be shared with his friends and family.
All too soon, the wines became too good for his friends.
Sam, his lead wine maker Dean Shaw, and their team at Two Paddocks have gone from strength to strength over the last few decades, expanding their holdings to exceptional sites in the region, and establishing themselves as one of NZ's top wineries.
Join us as we sit down to dinner at our favourite Enmore osteria Russo & Russo with Two Paddocks' manager Jacqui Murphy, as she discusses her love of her Central Otago home, and its phenomenal Pinot Noir.
Tickets are $245 and include a five-course specially-curated menu to pair with five wines from the Two Paddocks range, including The Last Chance Pinot Noir 2018.
Please email us at shop@acellars.com.au with any dietary requirements, which we will do our best to accommodate.
