MEET THE MAKER
Gullyview Estate Tasting
Wednesday
24th July 5:30PM-7:30PM
Some of you may have heard whispers of this already if you read last week's Thursday email. Wednesday next week on the 24th we will have the pleasure of hosting Jono Koerner of Koerner wines showcasing his solo project - Gullyview Estate. These are some seriously well-made and well-priced wines coming out of Clare Valley that are true to their respective variety and site. I tried these wines a few months ago and was thoroughly impressed so I am also excited to retaste these with you. Jono will be pouring the following wines on the day:
24 Brothers Riesling
23 Albert's Vermentino
24 Brothers Light Red
23 The Fruitful Grenache
23 Countryside Cabernet Sauvignon
By Farr
Most of you will know of the cult Geelong producer By Farr, known for making some of the best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the country. Perhaps not as many of you will be privy to their other labels under which they are making some fantastic wine at more accessible prices than their main line wines.
The Farr Rising label is the line that was launched by Gary Farr's son - Nick, after his first year out of uni. These wines are still sourced from grapes grown on the estate as well and offer much better drinkability in their youth than the main line wines for less than half the price.
The Irrewarra label comes from a vineyard that was initially planted in 2001 by the Calvert family of the famous Irrewarra Sourdough Bakery which the Farr's then made their own in 2012. This site is farmed with as much care and integrity as the estate vineyard in Bannockburn and highlights the points of difference in these two sites.
These are some fantastic expressions of Chardonnay and Pinot. We do also have the main line wines on our site for those that are interested but I implore you all to try these great wines for a fraction of the cost.Foradori
Foradori are one of the most iconic estates of the Dolomites region of northeast Italy, nestled amongst the mountains and valleys. Foradori have been farming biodynamically since 2002 (certified by Demeter in '09) and champion the local varieties of the region: Terodelgo, Pinot Grigio, Nosiola and Manzoni Bianco to make wines of authenticity and place.
Today Foradori is run by the family's fourth generation of winemakers: Emilio manages wine production, while Theo oversees the winery’s business and commerce; Myrtha takes care of Foradori’s farming and gradual expansion and the mother Elisabetta Foradori is still a supporting act behind the scenes.
"Our daily farming gestures are elevated to creative impulses: it is our duty and privilege to wake up every morning and to be free to work according to the message that the earth conveys to us in that moment."
With each successive vintage under their belts, they achieve a greater awareness of nature's rhythms and cycles, greater knowledge of the subtle differences in nature and how to translate these creative impulses into the end wine. Foradori work in two main sites within the Vigneti Delle Dolomiti: The Campo Rotaliano which is a flood plain formed by the confluence of the Noce River into the Adige River: a four hundred hectare triangle surrounded by massive cliffs, and Fontanasanta which is in the hills to the east of Trento where the agricultural landscape blends with the woods and residential areas, in a delicate balance between manmade and natural space. It is on these spectacular sites that the Foradori have found their physical and spiritual home and sowed a name for indigenous varieties such as Terodelgo that may have otherwise been completely forgotten about.
We have a great selection of these Foradori wines as we always love to support them and share them with you. We have 2 fantastic orange wines: the 'Fuoripista Pinot Grigio' and the 'Fontanasanta Nosiola' which are well-made clean expressions of their respective variety and sites. We have multiple different expressions of their famed Terodelgo to go around too: the 'Sgarzon Terodelgo' from both the '21 and '22 vintages as well as the '19 'Cilindrica Sgarzon', the '22 'Morei Terodelgo' and finally, the '21 'Granato' which comes from 3 different vineyards with an average vine age of 70 years. This is a chance to try one of Italy's best biodynamic producers showcasing the local varieties in their physical and spiritual home.
