PRODUCER PROFILE: DAPPLED
In 1999, Shaun Crinion set out on a surf trip to California which would ultimately change his life. Realising he would need money to fund the trip, he started working for his uncle who was a winemaker in central California, igniting the flame within and leading him onto the course he is now. Shaun held a series of winemaker and assistant winemaker roles in the decade after that, working with small to medium producers which further embedded his love of the cellar and vineyard. Dappled was eventually created in 2009 to make high quality, unadulterated wines from special patches of dirt at realistic prices. As Shaun makes these wines first and foremost for his family and friends, he makes them hand-crafted, minimal intervention philosophy that he still follows today.
We've picked up some of these fantastic wines from the 2025 release. The '25 'Appellation Chardonnay' comes from a blend of a few sites in both the Upper and Lower Yarra and ferments and matures in a combination of 80% old and 20% new French barriques, puncheons and demi-muids for 10 months. This is easily one of the best value Chardonnays in Australia! The '25 'Gladysdale Pinot Noir' is sourced from a single vineyard in the upper reaches of the Yarra Valley, uses 30% whole bunches with 3 weeks on skins followed by 10 months in barriques, of which 10% are new. This Pinot is also sensational value for money. Finally, the '25 'Tradition Cabernets' is a blend 68% Cab Sav and 32% Cab Franc with 20% whole bunches included in the ferment and spends 18 months in old French oak barriques. This is an incredible modern Bordeaux Blend. Check out the Dappled hype for yourself and pick up some of these amazing wines!

Discover a new side of Cabernet Franc! This little number by Pascal Lambert is a refreshing take on the classic Loire varietal with a carbonic maceration in concrete vats. Not too dissimilar to a great Beaujolais, this Cab Franc from Chinon shows layers of red fruit and spice with a herbal undertone, extremely light body and is impartial to chill in the fridge. Incredibly delicious and gluggable, you'll regret not giving this Chinon a chance.

Peter Schell and Magali Gely established Spinifex Wines in 2001 where they have had a home in the Barossa Valley for over twenty years. Peter and Magali work with sustainable growers throughout the Barossa and Eden Valleys and have also purchased their own vineyards in Eden Valley and the Barossa Valley floor from which they produce pure expressions of the climatically suited varieties of which they are planted to. They believe that the best wines come from great vineyards and work to make wines in a way that highlights their uniqueness blending classic and modern methods to bring out the best of their grapes.
