Gentle Folk
Single Vineyard Series
We're big fans of Gareth and Rainbo Belton and their Gentle Folk wines. The sustainable viticulture, non-interventionist winemaking and thoughtful approach, result in some seriously delicious wines. And while they release several cuvées throughout the year, his Single Vineyard Wines are always highly anticipated. Always balanced, structured and complete, the 2022 Single Vineyard releases are no exception to this theme. And as Gareth notes, the different microclimates of the area allow for very different wines from the various vineyards he sources fruit from. There is a clear evolution each release as they get to learn more from the sites they work and hone their skills. These are definitely wines worthy of your attention and cellar. - Pete L

Sigurd
Tasting this Saturday
September 2nd
3pm - 6pm
Many of you will know the Sigurd wines as we've stocked a selection of them for years. Every time we get them in they fly off the shelves... Especially the White, Red and Rose! The quality of the wines is immediately obvious upon tasting and they are always made in an accessible and fresh style across all the varieties that Dan works with so they tend to please everyone.
Dan Graham grew up around wine spending his school holidays working in vineyards in Central NSW. This time in the vines led him to make the leap to formal training doing a double degree at Charles Sturt University in viticulture and winemaking. To further his learning he also worked vintages in New Zealand (Central Otago), Canada (Okanagan Valley), Portugal (Alentejo), France (Hermitage) and Italy (Barolo). In 2012 he decided to change things up leaving his job working in the commercial side of wine at Jacob's Creek to start Sigurd, wanting to focus on a small scale operation that worked with organic fruit and make wines in a less mechanical fashion.
What started as a single barrel of Riesling has now grown into one of the Barossa Valley's most exciting producers, making wines that speak of the region whilst keeping things in a more modern and fresher lens. We love these wines and think you will too! - Pete L

Ochota Barrels
Spring Release
Well it's officially Spring in wine world!
The Spring release from Ochota Barrels has a habit of dropping at the perfect time each year. The days feel a bit brighter, the chill a bit lighter and we start to see people seeking lighter wines too.
Many of you will know the wines of Ochota Barrels, the story and also the collective sadness surrounding Taras's recent passing. His partner in life and wine, Amber is keeping their dream alive, continuing to produce the wines we all love and it's with great excitement that we can offer you this year's Spring release from Ochota Barrels.
The quantities are very limited and we won't be able to get more so if these are on your wishlist for the year then this is your chance.

Mas Jullien
Olivier Jullien comes from a family of grape growers in the Languedoc region. Languedoc was typically associated with lesser quality wines, overcropped vineyards and bulk production and this didn't sit right with Olivier who saw more for his family's holdings and the region. While still in his 20s he made the decision to establish a cellar utilising some extra space on the family farm and went on the hunt for vineyards to call his own. His wines now sit amongst the top producers of the region, like Grange des Peres and Mas de Daumas Gassac who also shared his vision for the region. These wines, especially Grange de Peres have become very sought after globally so we are very lucky to have both Mas Jullien and Grange des Peres in stock.
The wines are imported in small quantities to Australia and have definitely flown under the radar here for a little while. Hopefully we can change that by sharing how excited we are to have these in-store! We've received an allocation of the white wine, a blend of 70% Carignan Blanc and 30% Chenin Blanc for a few years now and finally we have a selection of their Reds and a Rose to offer too! For the reds, he's working with Grenache, Carignan, Syrah, Cinsault and Mourvedre and are typically aged for around 18 months in older oak vessels including foudre. All the wines are built for the long haul so cellaring is recommended but if you can't wait then please let them have some time in a decanter before enjoying these extremely rare and special wines. - Pete L
