30 years ago, in the same year he introduced us to the world's favourite paleontologist Dr Alan Grant, actor Sam Neill joined an early wave of winegrowers planting sheep paddocks to vines in New Zealand's Central Otago.
He hoped his 5 acre paddock of Pinot Noir would produce wine good enough to be shared with his friends and family.
All too soon, the wines became too good for his friends.
Sam, his lead wine maker Dean Shaw, and their team at Two Paddocks have gone from strength to strength over the last few decades, expanding their holdings to exceptional sites in the region, and establishing themselves as one of NZ's top wineries.
Join us as we sit down to dinner at Enmore osteria Russo & Russo with Two Paddocks' manager Jacqui Murphy as she discusses her love of her Central Otago home, and its phenomenal Pinot Noir.
Tickets are $245 and include a five-course specially-prepared menu to pair with five wines from the Two Paddocks range, including The Last Chance Pinot Noir 2018.
Please email us at shop@acellars.com.au with any dietary requirements, which we will do our best to accommodate.

In-Store Tasting:
Commune of Buttons
This Saturday, 15th of July
3pm - 6pm
Join us in-store this Saturday to taste through a selection of new releases from Adelaide Hills legends, Commune of Buttons. Lauren, their leading legend who champions all things Buttons in Sydney will be here to guide you through their 2021 offering. The wines get better every year and having tasted this release recently I can confirm the upward trend continues!
Here's a little info about the Buttons...
When Jasper Button and his sister, Sophie, moved back to the family vineyard in the Adelaide Hills, they hade no intention of making wine. For them, the journey was more about building the farm into an economically viable business. But then Jasper met Anton van Klopper of Lucy Margaux.
The trailblazing natural winemaker and all-round wildman introduced Jasper to the philosophies behind natural winemaking and how full of energy and vibrancy these wines can be. Jasper picked and processed two barrels of Chardonnay in 2013, and never looked back.
He and Sophie founded Commune of Buttons the very next year, began converting the vineyards to organic and biodynamic viticulture, and started making wines in earnest. They were quickly welcomed into the natural wine community of the Basket Range, learning and sharing knowledge with producers such as Brendon Keys of BK Wines, James Erskine of Jauma, and the late Taras Ochota from Ochota Barrels.
Validation came very quickly for Jasper, with the award for Best New Act at the Young Gun of Wine Awards 2016, and then having his 2015 ABC Chardonnay poured at Rene Redzepi's NOMA pop-up in Sydney.
Since then, the Buttons have gone from strength to strength, building their range, and sourcing fruit from outside their own vineyards to supplement their production. All of their partner vineyards share the same hands-off philosophies, and all of the fruit picked is processed with minimal intervention and maximum care by Jasper and Sophie. No additions of any kind are used during the winemaking process with tiny amounts of sulphur added just prior to bottling.
Join us on Saturday to see what all the fuss is about. - Pete L

BY FARR
The name Farr is instantly recognisable for anyone who has even a passing interest in Australian wine. The Farr family is one of the multi-generational, stalwarts of the Moorabool Valley in the Geelong region of Victoria, who have been producing exceptional wines of elegance and class for decades.
The By Farr label was established by the notoriously brusque, yet incredibly well-respected, Gary Farr in 1994. Gary had been, up until that point, the winemaker at Bannockburn, having also completed numerous vintages at the vaunted Domaine Dujac in Burgundy. Together with his wife Robyn, Gary planted, grafted, tended, produced and created some of the finest vineyards and resultant wines in Australia - a position that By Farr still holds today.
Gary has since retired from the full-time management of By Farr, but he is succeeded by his son, Nick. Like his father, Nick completed vintages at Domaine Dujac (among others), bringing Burgundian technique and philosophy together with the Farr's uniquely Australian site. He also cut his teeth with his own label, Farr Rising, which won many accolades and praise over the years. Nick is not simply a worthy successor - he is an incredibly talented vigneron in his own right, and has taken By Farr to new heights. - Pete L

G.D. Vajra &
Luigi Baudana
2019 Barolo Release
There is no vineyard, no terroir, without the land.To love it is simple, but not easy. The land is generous and alive. It is beautiful. It needs understanding and time.It takes your breath away with its colors and many wonders. - The Vaira Family
It takes a true master to tame the beast that is the Nebbiolo grape. G.D. Vajra's Albe pays tribute to the mid-century true masters of Barolo, who understood the land, its terroir, its climate and its nuances, blending their cuvées in such a way to result in wines of incredible poise and charm.
G.D. Vajra was established by Aldo Vaira when he returned to his ancestor's land in the 1970s. An enthusiasm to embrace the past, but the understanding to know that the uncertainty of the future demands flexibility, these personality traits were equally demonstrated through Aldo's decision to continue with the error at the printers that labels the family name of Vaira with a historic spelling of it, Vajra.
Today Aldo's children Giuseppe, Isidoro and Francesca continue his legacy, and year after year, their Albe continues to be one of the best value Barolo on the market.
But the family's love of the Barolo land is celebrated in their holdings that have expanded to coveted sites, including the Serralunga site of Luigi Baudana, and the family's own flagship wine, the Bricco delle Viole. The 2019 vintage is not to be missed. - Peta W
