Wines by KT Tasting
Saturday 22nd
3pm - 6pm
Join us this Saturday for a tasting of the excellent Wines by KT. Based in the Watervale district of the Clare Valley, Kerri Thompson is focused on creating wines that express spirit of place. Kerri's first love with wine was Riesling, which is what she specialises in working with carefully-grown, sustainably farmed grapes that express the soul of the region. Kerri is also able to produce some fun and exciting wines from other varieties as well such as Cabernet and Shiraz.
We will announce the full lineup of wines that we'll be showing closer to the date so stay tuned to our Thursday email and Instagram for more detail!

One Last Heatwave Wines
It seems this summer has been full of surprises, including creeping its way well into Autumn. Typing this on the Sunday that just hit shy of 40 degrees Celsius with a warm week still lined up ahead of us, there’s no better time to highlight some of our thirst-quenching sparkling and white wines while the weather is still begging for them to be drunk.
We’ve selected some wines below that we believe are both excellent value and perfect for drinking in hot, humid weather. Some of these wines are store-staples, some are brand new (Keith Tulloch Semillon) and some haven’t been in the store for a long time (Blind Corner Pet-Nat) but most importantly, they’re all great. Make the most of wines like these before the weather takes a cold turn for the worst.

Nick Spencer
Nick Spencer Wines is a small family-owned wine company nestled in the heart of New South Wales, Australia. Since its inception in 2016, they have adopted a adopted a similar approach to the renowned Negociant model of France, carefully selecting fruit from top growers throughout New South Wales, including the esteemed regions of Gundagai, Tumbarumba, and Hilltops. Since then, Nick has been able to make fantastic wines that have earned him many accolades including the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy and was even a scholar in the Len Evans Tutorial.
Nick Spencer draws inspiration from Australia’s rich winemaking history while remaining in touch with the evolving Australian palate. Nick Spencer Wines started with two red blends, a Light Dry red paying homage to the Australian 'Red Burgundies' and a Medium Dry Red paying honouring the Australian "Clarets". Blending red varietals is a craft that seeks to balance complexity and harmony, enhancing each grape's unique characteristics to create a wine greater than the sum of its parts. Instead, Nick directs his attention to the style of a wine: its structure, balance and origin, rather than on minute details which are more or less irrelevant to the end product which is a glass full of wine. With this approach, Nick is able to craft wines that are more harmonious, complete and food-friendly as he is seeking to make the best wines possible rather than reflect what a certain variety is “supposed” to be like.
We’ve had Nick’s wines in our shop for some time now as we believe they represent excellent value, especially for our home state of NSW which is too often over-looked for Victoria or SA. From Nick’s main label, we have the ‘24 ‘Hilltops Pinot Gris’ which is a deliciously aromatic and food-friendly expression of this grape that comes from a vineyard at 600m above sea level on decomposed granite soils. The ‘23 ‘Tumbarumba Chardonnay’ is a staple of our Chardonnay fridge that is perfect for anyone wanting a richer, fuller-bodied style of Chardonnay. This is sourced from a vineyard 700m above sea level, also on decomposed granite soils. The ‘21 ‘Gundagai Light Dry Red’ is one of Nick’s most iconic wines - a blend of Pinot Noir, Sangiovese and Shiraz which pays homage to Australia’s classic ‘Burgundies’. This is the perfect wine for anyone wanting a lighter red but are not too fussed on what the actual variety is. Finally, the ‘22 ‘Tumbarumba Pinot Noir’ is an excellent example of what NSW can do with the notoriously difficult grape. These are some fantastic wines at a great price from one of NSW’s best winemakers - don’t pass these up!
