Zalto

Zalto are easily the greatest producer of handblown glasses and decanters on the market today. These glasses are considered by practically everyone who has used them to be the best vessel from which to drink wine. Wine is all about the experience, it only makes sense that the glass that you drink from plays an important role in the wonderful experience of drinking wine - drinking from a Zalto is a surefire way to ensure that you make the most of the moment.

The fine design of the glasses demands the skill of the glassblower to be unparalleled. Zalto only use carefully selected raw materials and complex traditional methods to achieve handcrafted perfection - every single component of the glass is made by hand. The handmade work is reminiscent of the fine craftsmanship of the Venetian glass artists of the Renaissance. The perfectly balanced design without seams and joins is another important point of their philosophy, that the wine is the focus and no detail of the glass should distract from the experience. Only the best master glassmakers in the world can produce glasses of this quality and level of execution.

We've got a large range of Zalto's incredible glasses and decanters/carafes to have you covered for this Christmas. From their glass range, we have: 'Bordeaux', 'Burgundy', 'White Wine', 'Universal' and 'Champagne' glasses in stock. These are the crème de la crème of wine glasses and will make the perfect glasses to drink from this Christmas/NYE and fantastic gifts for wine-lovers. We also have the 'Axium Decanter' as well as 'Carafe No. 25', 'Carafe No. 75', 'Denk Art Carafe No. 150' and 'Denk Art Carafe No. 67'. Don't miss out on these highly sought-after glasses and decanters!

Brian Hirst

Brian Hirst has been one of the leading Australian glass blowers for over 40 years, producing distinctive, hand blown works of art. Brian's decanters can be found in boutique wine shops and restaurants around the country, although it's a little bit more special buying them from us as Brian lives just down the road in Annandale himself. Brian even has a piece in the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in the West Wing of the Louvre!

There is not a whole more that needs to be said about these special decanters. These decanters are not mass-produced; instead they are made in small runs of freely blown forms in his contemporary studio. These decanters are not blown into moulds at all - each decanter is slightly different and in some cases you can even see tool marks - truly authentic and irreplicable! You can come into the store yourself and see the difference between models of the "same" decanter. All decanters are signed by Brian himself and come in sizes to accommodate either 750ml or 1500ml bottles.

These decanters make for a thoughtful and unique gift to give to a loved one this Christmas. You can be rest assured that no one else has received the exact same gift before!

Egly-Ouriet

Egly-Ouriet stands as one of the greatest grower producers of Champagne out there. Known for his fastidious biodynamic work in the vineyard and mostly single-site expressions, Francis Egly has captivated wine lovers around the world and brought much deserved attention to the work that growers are doing in Champagne, alongside the likes of Selosse and Agrapart.

Egly-Ouriet are known for their Pinot Noir dominant expressions of the Grand Cru terroir of Ambonnay, but they also have holdings in other Grand Cru villages like Bouzy and Verzenay. There’s also an old vine plot of Pinot Meunier in the village of Vrigny which is vinified separately. Francis Egly has a methodology and ethos which includes no chemical fertilisers, herbicides, or pesticides, extremely low yields, low dosage, no fining or filtration, and mostly single site or single village expressions. The wines of Egly-Ouriet continue to improve and they are currently working with the best reserve wines they have made to date with a new reserve cellar to effectively manage them.

We've recently stocked up on a good range of Francis' wines in time for Christmas and NYE. The 'Les Prémices' is an excellent starting point, made of an equal portion of Chardonnay, Pinot and Meunier from 40 year old vines. The 2 Premier Cru wines we have are: 'Les Vignes de Vrigny' and 'Les Vignes de Bisseuil' - the former is 100% Meunier from 40 year old vines spending 36 months on lees, the latter is the only Chardonnay-dominant wine in the lineup and spends 48 months on lees. On to the Grand Cru wines, we have the 'Grand Cru NV' and 'Grand Cru Rose NV' - the former made from a 70/30 split of Pinot/Chardonnay and spends 48 months on lees with over 50% of the wine fermented and matured in barrel, while the Rose is made from the same proportion of grapes but also includes 5% of Egly's Coteaux Champenois Rouge which adds colour and a complex silky character to the wine. There's also the 'Grand Cru V.P.' which stands for Vieillissement Prolongé (prolonged aging) as this wine spends 84 months on its lees and aged in the first period in oak casks. The top bottles that Egly offers are the 'Grand Cru Blanc de Noirs Les Crayères Vieilles Vignes NV' and the 2015 'Grand Cru Millésime'. The Blanc de Noirs is 100% Pinot Noir from 75 year old vines (vines this old are extremely rare in Champagne), vinified and aged in barrel and spends 72 months on its lees. The Millésime is made from 70% Pinot and 30% Chardonnay from 40 year old vines in Ambonnay, with the family selecting the grapes at harvest before vinification in barrel. This wine spends a whopping 96 months on lees giving it incredible richness and texture. These are some of the very best wines in Champagne, pick these up for Christmas or to celebrate the New Year!
