Red Blends. What to say about this collection of wines... they're such a diverse bunch! Red Blends are a combination of two or more grape varieties in a single wine. Often these varieties are blended due to the varieties planted in a single vineyard and/or because the winemaker believes the wine is more complete using multiple varieties. For example, one variety might bring acidity and freshness, while another can bring body and weight. There are so many reasons one might blend!

Classic red blends include:

  • Shiraz and Viognier: Commonly found in Cote Rotie, Northern Rhone
  • Grenache Noir, Shiraz and Mourvedre: Commonly found in Chateauneuf du Pape, Languedoc and Roussillon
  • Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot: Commonly found in Bordeaux and Tuscany
  • Nero d'Avola and Frappato: Commonly found in Vittoria, Sicily
  • Nebbiolo, Barbera and Dolcetto: Commonly found in Langhe, Piedmont
  • Corvina, Rondinella and Corvione: Commonly found in Valpolicella
