Tasting Notes
A blend of Garganega, Moscato and Marzemina bianca from the hills of Veneto. Organically farmed and naturally made with 3 days maceration on skins followed by 10 months elevage in concrete. Beautifully aromatic with reasonable weight and mouthfilling tannins. - Chris L
Alla Costiera is a medium-sized winery, almost 30 hectares including some arable land, but their attention to both the vineyard, entirely cultivated by them, and the winery is very artisanal. The wines are simple, everyday wines, and as Filippo says, "wines that everyone can afford, because a glass of wine should be everyone's right." The varieties are the typical ones of the hills: Tai (Friulano), Biancone, Moscato Giallo, Garganega, Serprina (Glera), Pinella, and Marzemina for whites, and Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Carmenere, along with a few ancient varieties that Filippo and Elisa have been reintroducing for reds. The vine training systems vary, including cordon-trained spur, Guyot, and Vecchio Silvo (all the old vines are trained this way). The soils vary: the western slope of the Colli Euganei, in the vineyards at Vo’ Vecchio near the winery, has calcareous and marine sediment soils (marl). The eastern slope, in the vineyards at Teolo, has siliceous soils of volcanic origin, where the typical rock is called trachyte. All these profiles give wines with good acidity and interesting minerality and savoriness, with typical hints of Mediterranean scrub. - Importer Note
