Tasting Notes
Some readers may know that Antoine Jobard and Jean-François Germain (of Domaine Henri Germain) are connected by marriage; Jean-François is married to Antoine Jobard’s sister (Sophie). This is important to know as it means that Sophie Germain (née Jobard) is in line to inherit a range of vineyards through her side of the family (François Jobard is both her and Antoine’s father). Recently François Jobard passed on his parcel of Poruzots and this was split between Antoine and Sophie. Now half of these original Poruzots holdings are produced by Domaine Henri Germain while the balance remains with Antoine. How fascinating then that we are now able to offer the wines from the same historic parcel of the same vineyard, farmed in the same way, and raised by two of Meursault’s best growers! Although the two holdings abut each other, there is, as always, a difference in terroir. Germain’s vines were planted in 1961 and sit on the Genevrières side of the vineyard. Jobard’s parcel (actually three parcels totaling 0.79 ha) are sited in the upper part of Le Porusot-Dessus, under the Narvaux terroirs, and typically begets the most pungent, complex, earthy Meursault in the Jobard offering. Jobard himself refers to the vineyard as the “beating heart of Meursault.” - Rob Walters
