Tasting Notes
A fresher take on Grillo than the other whites of Barraco. Planted on a sand dune (no joke) by the Mediterranean. Crunchy, saline, zippy and slightly oxidative. One for those who lean towards the more natural side of life. - Chris L
Barraco is the artisanal project of Nino Barraco, located in the coastal vineyards surrounding Marsala, Sicily. Since taking over his family’s land in 2004, Nino has cultivated nearly twenty hectares of steeply sloped, sandy–limestone soils, farming with complete respect for nature—never irrigating, avoiding chemicals, and harvesting all grapes by hand.
His wines are made with minimal intervention: native yeast fermentations, spontaneous malolactic conversion, zero fining or filtration, and very low or no added sulfur. The range features native Sicilian varieties—Grillo, Catarratto, Zibibbo, Nero d’Avola, Perricone—and includes both fresh, aromatic whites and nuanced oxidative styles, often aged in old casks in the spirit of pre-fortified Marsala tradition.
At Barraco, the philosophy is not about crafting a “perfect” wine but one brimming with emotion and personality—salty, sun-kissed, vibrant expressions that reveal the spirit of Marsala in every sip.
