Tasting Notes
A small production and limited release wine.
Sometimes when you walk into a vineyard that is this beautiful, you can’t help but think that it must make amazing wine. This fruit is from Sue Trott’s Wilpena vineyard. It’s in the heart of Blewitt Springs. The vines were planted in 1952 and are dry grown on deep sand. It faces quite steeply east, not a very common thing in McLaren Vale, so misses out on a lot of late afternoon (hot) sun.
Hand-picked fruit, aged in old French oak for 10 months, and bottled with no fining, filtration or additions apart from a small amount of Sulphur to keep the wine fresh. The Trott vineyard tends to have a darker fruit profile, with great power and structure. It is a Grenache that needs time to come together, to soften and show it’s true beauty. We hope that this in turn will help it to age for a long time, to hang tight to its freshness and vitality over many years.- Winery Note
Andre Bondar is at the helm of his family's vineyard and making some of the most expressive wines out of South Australia. The Bondar home vineyard is called Rayner and is located in the hills of McLaren Vale where the sub-regions of Blewitt Springs and Seaview meet. This organically farmed vineyard planted on the famous sands of the region is mostly made up of Shiraz and Grenache, with a spattering of Counoise, Mataro, Carignan, Cinsault, Touriga Nacional and Sagrantino. The red wines are generally mid-weight, gloriously perfumed and finely structured. Bondar also sources fruit from other vineyards in McLaren Vale and the Adelaide Hills.
