Tasting Notes
This is the highest point in the hill of Béru. The name Montserre literally means the mount of the Serres, the Serres being a typical geological conformation made from piled up fossilised sharp lime layers. Wines from this terroir express a strong personality, marked by its texture and concentration, mineral, salty, smoky notes and hints of iodine. Aged for 18 months in old wood and bottled with no sulphur. - Importer Note
The Béru family have owned the historical Château de Béru domain for 400 years. At the beginning of the 20th century when the phylloxera crisis hit all the vines were uprooted leaving the estate without its source of income. Only in 1987 the Comte Eric de Béru, out of passion for wine, replanted the entire vineyard, and in particular, the famous Clos Béru. His daughter Athénaïs now runs the domain. Since converting to biodynamics, Athénaïs' first vintage was 2005 and in the years that followed she has become one of the most revered and influential winemakers in Chablis. She now manages 15 hectares on the classic soils of Chablis, kimmeridgian clay and stones. Our visit with Athenais was truly inspirational. She is an amazing winemaker of incredible purity and virtue. - Importer Note
