Tasting Notes
A special back vintage. From terroir exactly like Clos Rougeard's "Les Poyeux" (pure, almost beach sand, over limestone). A rare bottling from Antoine Foucault and what a wine. It's a red wine from almost pure limestone - aromatically it displays vibrant fruit on the nose, sweet blackcurrant with a gloriously perfumed seam. The palate is bright, with a succulent texture and substance underneath the perfumed fruit. It feels stony but has all the resonance, complexity and depth you would expect from an estate of this calibre and shows similar class to the famed reds of the historical Clos Rougeard. - Importer Note
Antoine practices Bio dynamics and the harvest is manual with strict sorting carried out in the vineyards. In his deep cellar, Antoine is very observant but lets nature take it's course, he uses a very modest dose of sulfur before the bottling.The wines are aged in a combination of seasoned barrels and foudre for anywhere between 24 and 36 months before release. The cellar is actually part of Clos Rougeard which is renowned for being very cold and this protects the wines in élevage and I think goes some way to explaining the glacial development of the wines in bottle.
