Tasting Notes

The fruit for this wine comes from nearly 100-year-old vines from a site that’s 950m above sea level… No wonder this wine is so good! The fruit is carefully hand harvested, fermented in stainless steel tanks and then aged in French oak barrels. An intensely aromatic nose packed full of black fruits with hints of pepper and spice. Smooth ripe tannins give structure to a rich, complex finish. - Pete L

The Cassone family emigrated to Argentina from Italy in the 19th Century, bringing with them a knowledge of viticulture and a love of wine. Flash forward to the 1950s, when Roberto Cassone began making wine in small quantities, mostly for his friends and family. But this love of wine, was passed on to his son Eduardo, who is now the current owner.

The family's vineyards lie in the Luján de Cuyo region of southwest Mendoza, sitting approximately 950 metres above sea level. In 1998, Eduardo built a modern winery, to take full advantage of the family vines, most of which are over 100 years old.

The work in the vineyard is all carried out by hand, before the fruit is transferred to the winery for processing. Fermentation is carried out in stainless steel tanks, with a cool temperature maceration to extract flavour and character. The wine is then racked to oak barrels (80% French, 20% American) for 6 months maturation.

The combination of extraordinary vineyard location, century-old vines, and the years of experience and skill of Familia Cassone, has resulted in a collection of beautiful wines that emphasise a focus on quality, rather than quantity.
