Tasting Notes

This is Jura! Savagnin made traditionally. There is both richness and focus at play with this wine. Oxidative handling during ferment and maturation means this wine has a big heart (richness) but because of Savignin's high acid nature it is also has a heart beat (acidity). Drinking most wines from the Jura is an experience unlike most others so you have to be open-minded if you're not use to the style. We're talking about a heap of complexing savoury notes like nuts, bruised apple and honey, with a volumptuous body of texture. I love these wines with food and I'd love to see more people drinking them. - Chris L

Being a former employee of the Jura body (SVJ) Société de Viticulture du Jura for 10 years, Frédéric Lambert knows the region, soils and vines of the Jura very well. He started buying vineyards around Toulouse-le-Château in 1993 and later set up his own Domaine in 2003. Organic practices have been implemented from the start and he has been tending and planting that way since the beginning as he believes chemicals “massacre the soil!”

His wife Marie-Anne now works full time with Frédéric and their domaine is going from strength to strength, buying more plots in Passenans, close by to Les Dolomies Le Combes vineyard, and also two plots in the famed vineyards of Château Chalon. This brings their total to around 7ha. Yields are always kept very low and it shows in the intensity and length he gets in his wines. The winemaking facilities are located in the town of Toulouse but their house and tasting rooms are in the small village of Le Chateley.

Their wines are mostly traditional and whites being (sous voile) oxidative with a few exceptions linking them to the slowly modernising movement in the Jura right now. Every wine is carefully thought out in the cave which now resides in the old honey factory in the town of Toulouse. Production is now around 15000 bottles a year but they are continuing to expand now that their son Romain has finished his studies.

Guide Hachette also named them 2018 Wine Maker of the Year (Jura). Great recognition for a man that has worked so hard on organic farming, planting and conversion for the last 25 years.

We look forward to their success and continued growth. - Importer Note
