Tasting Notes
I went in blind when I decided to pull this from the fridge and take a bottle of Sake home for the night. I'd recently been to a Sake class hosted by the importers of this Sake who also import the bulk of what we carry. The sakes we tried on the day were the yeasty, leesy, savoury kind that had very subtle notes of fruit where as this sake from Fukuchiyo Shuzo was the opposite. This sake is made using the top quality Yamada Nishiki rice from Toyama where the rice thrives. This is a much more fruit forward style of Sake that leads with ripe pear, honeydew and rock melon flavours and I suspect it has a couple of grams of residual sugar too. I thoroughly enjoyed this and I think the fruit driven character of the sake would make it an interesting pairing to a very wide variety of starters, seafood and even desserts. - Pete L
