Tasting Notes

Our Estate Pinot Noir comes from a blend of nine clones across our vineyard sites.  Fruit was picked based on clonal ripeness and majority destemmed prior to a 7-14 day cold soak. Fermentation was a combination of cultured and wild yeast, with maturation taking place over 11 months in first-grade French oak, 30% new. A focused, perfumed wine displaying the full range of Pinot Noir aromatics. Softly texture and long on the palate. - Winemaker Note

Ghost Rock Wines was established by Cate and Colin Arnold in 2001 on a run-down property just East of Devonport, with only a handful of vines.

There are no neighbours, no-one to follow or copy, no regional ‘manual’ or ‘playbook’ to follow, We’ve had to crack the viticultural code completely independent here. It’s why our pruning program is so tailored, our vine spacings are tailored, our clone mix is tailored, our whole program is tailored and continually tested and teased. Improvement is part and parcel of our business and our team.

There’s nothing earth-shattering or groundbreaking in the winery... it all comes down to the quality of the fruit. We tweak around the edges as every region does; a little less whole-bunch here, a little longer cold-soak there, some oak selections that drive mid-palette and texture perhaps more. It’s all interesting and valid, but it’s not what has us where we are today.
