Tasting Notes
Made predominantly from Tinta Negra Mole--with 20% Malvasia in this case-- Henriques & Henriques 5 Year Old blends are produced in an estufa process specifically set up for these wines. They are then aged in oak casks for 5 years prior to bottling. As the name suggests, it is a dark, full bodied and luscious dessert wine, characterized by intense dried fruits, Christmas spices (cinnamon, anise, and cloves), candied lemon and bitter orange zest. Finishes with a spicy, caramel note. It will work on its own or with rich foods like chocolate, petits fours, blue cheese, or even just with coffee. - Importer Note
Madeira is the world's most robust and long lived wine. They can easily live for centuries and stay fresh for months after opening. For those who have not tasted Madeira; it is a fortified wine from the Portuguese island of the same name, made in a range of styles from dry(ish) to sweet, yet always with an elegance and a distinctive, refreshing tang to close (this is what separates it from other, heavier tasting fortifieds). Henriques & Henriques has established an impeccable reputation as one of the top sources for high quality Madeira. They are the leading independent Madeira shipping house and practise an uncompromising devotion to the quality of their wines through the use of only the highest quality grapes, a remarkable state-of-the-art winery, and stoic, disciplined use of the estufa method of wine production. They are also unique in concentrating on quality Madeira's (rather than bulk handling of 'cooking' wine) and hold extensive stocks, some more than a century old, of these quality wines. The 10 year old, 15 year old, Solera, Vintage and very old Reserves are produced from Sercial, Verdelho, Bual or Malvasia ‚– as labelled. - Importer Note
