Hughes & Hughes is a dynamic Tasmanian project from brothers Matthew and Jonathan Hughes, established in 2014 as a creative offshoot of their established Mewstone Wines venture in the D’Entrecasteaux Channel, just south of Hobart. Whereas Mewstone focuses on single-vineyard precision, Hughes & Hughes allows greater freedom—sourcing fruit from across Tasmania and exploring more experimental, small-batch winemaking.
The range spans aromatic whites, Pinot Noir, and innovative blends, often produced with techniques such as skin contact, amphora aging, or pétillant-naturel bottling. All are made with a light hand—wild fermentations, minimal additions, and a focus on freshness, texture, and early approachability.
Hughes & Hughes has quickly gained a reputation for expressive, energetic wines that showcase both Tasmania’s cool-climate character and the brothers’ curiosity and creativity. These are wines that balance precision with playfulness, offering vivid fruit, clarity, and a contemporary edge.
