Tasting Notes
The wine is a portrait of 2016, and our harvest in Aÿ, Dizy, Hautvillers (55%), Avize and Oiry (45%). Winter and spring were extremely rainy. At first mild, then temperatures dropped from the end of February, with severe frosts occurring at the end of April. Late spring was sunny and cool, but summer got both very hot and very dry. We started picking on September 19th and finished on October 6th, with a hiatus of a few days in between to take into account fairly uneven levels of maturity across the parcels. The harvest gave us ripe and perfectly healthy grapes and the wines were aromatic and tasty, with a notable mention for the very successful Pinot Noir. A few reserve wines completed the cuvée. Dosage 0.75g/L. - Jean-Hervé & Laurent Chiquet
Our land holdings are in two main areas, the Grande Vallée de la Marne and in the Côte des Blancs. In the Grande Vallée de la Marne we have vines in Aï, a Grand Cru, and Dizy and Hautvillers both Premiers Crus; the vineyards are mostly sloping, facing east, south or south-west where the chalk lies at varying depths below the soil. We also have holdings in two Grand Crus in the Côte des Blancs, Avize and Oiry; there our parcels face due south, with chalk showing on the surface. - Winery Note
