Tasting Notes
McLaren Vale Grenache from Jim Zerella's block in Willunga. James makes this wine carbonically (like a lot of his light reds) which really helps to bring the juicy, fruitiness of the vineyard to the forefront. Danby is a light bodied explosion of dark fruits and spices, blackcurrants, dark cherries and thyme. The wine has a driving acidity and strong presence that commands attention. Unfiltered and unfined, naturally. - Chris L
James Erskine is a man with genuine passion for his wines and while that may not be unique in the wine world, James is one of the more uniquely creative people in the wine world that you are ever likely to meet. The grapes for this wine come from the Wood Vineyard planted by Ralph Wood in 1988 along the Clarendon Ridge in South Australia skirting the boundary of Adelaide Hills and McLaren Vale. All the vines are grown organically without the use of additional water and remain on their original root-stock planted on sandy red-grey over ironstone bedrock.
