Loujan is traditionally distilled in a single continuous still known as , an Alambic Armagnacais. This process of heating the wine until it produces steam, capturing the rich, full bodied aromas in a pure and un altered fashion, then converting the steam to the final 'Eau de vie ", is exactly what sets Armagnac apart from other fine brandies.
Armagnac is typified by its rich, full bodied characteristics, showing strong primary fruit. It is dominated by dried fruit flavours, with hints of vanilla, leather, almonds and hickory. Aromatics consist of undiluted smokey and earthy overtones.
Loujan is a small, artisanal Armagnac producer located in the village of Magnan, at the heart of Gascony in southwest France. Founded by Benjamin Loustaunau, the domaine is dedicated to reviving traditional methods of Armagnac production while showcasing the diversity and nuance of single-varietal and single-vintage bottlings. The vineyards are planted to the classic Gascon grapes—Ugni Blanc, Folle Blanche, Colombard and Baco—cultivated with respect for the land and harvested to preserve freshness and balance in the distillates.
Distillation takes place in a traditional continuous still, yielding eaux-de-vie of delicacy and aromatic lift. Ageing is carried out in French oak, often from Gascon forests, where long, slow maturation allows the brandies to gain depth, spice and texture while retaining fruit clarity. Loujan also emphasises transparency, releasing Armagnacs that are bottled without additives and often as single-cask expressions.
The house style is elegant and terroir-driven—Armagnacs that favour finesse over brute power, offering layers of orchard fruit, spice and savoury complexity. Loujan has quickly established itself among a new wave of independent producers redefining the reputation of Gascony’s great spirit.
