Tasting Notes
1990-92 Syrah from a total of 1 hectare on La Bouvate et Les Rennes at Larnage, northern sector, 50% destemmed, 2 week vinification, cap punched, vat emptying/refilling, aged 4-10 year oak casks 12-13 months, then 3-6 months vat, unfined, unfiltered, 3 bottlings – March/April, May, end of June/July, 3,500bts made JLL
Tasted at the domaine. Smoked bacon and spicy nose – reductive and going through malolacti fermentation. Lovely spice and grip on the palate, meaty and savoury with fine and refined tannins – good balance. With a meaty sweetness and a tequila-drenched earthiness. Young and in a changing phase. Drink: 2023-2030’ 17++/20 Alistair Cooper, MW, JancisRobinson.com
Marc Sorrel has some of the most brilliant sites in Hemitage and has improved over the last 30 years to be one of the finest producers Hermitage alongside Chave & Chapoutier for quality, if not price (yet). His winemaking technique is distinctly non-interventionist he uses new oak extremely judiciously and his wines are often aged for up to two years before bottling. This traditional approach gives an old-fashioned style of Hermitage which is full, well-structured and very long-lived. - Importer Note
