Tasting Notes
A Georgian amber wine made from macerated Rkatsiteli, Mtsvane, Saperavi, Budeshuri, Tsolikouri, and Tavkveri. Traditionally made with no additions whatsoever. It’s savoury and highly textured yet very approachable for this style of wine. Made to be drunk with food. – Chris L
Okro’s Wines is one of Georgia’s most respected natural wine producers, based in the historic winemaking town of Sighnaghi in the Kakheti region. Founded by John (Ia) Okruashvili in the early 2000s, the estate has become a benchmark for qvevri-made wines that balance authenticity, precision and drinkability. Okruashvili’s approach is rooted in a deep respect for Georgia’s ancient viticultural traditions, while embracing a thoughtful, modern sensibility that has made his wines highly regarded both locally and internationally.
The vineyards are farmed organically at elevations of around 600 metres, where the warm, dry climate and limestone-clay soils yield fruit of concentration and natural balance. Indigenous Georgian varieties such as Rkatsiteli, Mtsvane, Saperavi, and Tavkveri form the core of production. All wines are fermented and aged in traditional qvevri with minimal intervention—no added yeast, filtration or sulphur—allowing each grape and site to express its full character.
Okro’s wines are known for their purity, structure and textural depth—amber whites with fine tannins and savoury complexity, and reds of freshness and earthy elegance. The estate has become a cornerstone of Georgia’s natural wine movement, showcasing how traditional methods can yield wines of both integrity and finesse.
