Tasting Notes
This wine, like Burgundy whites generally, often surprise with quality, even in tough hot & dry seasons - and even with their secondary tier grapes (like Aligote). This Aligote has produced a pure, fresh and ripe citrus style with just a hint of riper white nectarine type taste. It's zippy & fine boned with good acidity and a saline edge, like a lot of good Aligote. Controlled alcohol too (12.5%). A quality newer winemaker at the helm. Loved it with richer grilled fish; and I reckon it will enhance pasta of all sorts too. It just keeps growing on you as it opens! - Michael L
Thierry Pillot is starting to hit his groove, driving the wines of his family Domaine to greater and greater heights. With each vintage the wines here get purer, more refined and, well, just better. Thierry is great friends with Vincent Dancer, Marc Bachelet, Arnaud Mortet and many of the other young guns of Burgundy. He is part of a revolution that has been sweeping through the Côte d’Or: a zeitgeist being driven by a new generation. The wines of his father were always good, in no small part due to the quality of the holdings. However it is strikingly clear to us, and regular visitors like Allen Meadows, that this invigorated address has well and truly kicked up another gear and now bears comparison with the very best that Chassagne has to offer. There is a purity and clarity to these wines that many of the better known Chassagne Domaines cannot match. There are better known Chassagne names here, as they have been imported for longer and there is more wine, but don’t make the mistake of assuming that because you are more familiar with these other names that the wines are better. They ain’t.
The Pillot’s have first class holdings in Chassagne 1er cru sites such as La Romanée, Clos St Jean, Les Grandes Ruchottes, Les Caillerets, La Grande Montagne, etc. We do not ship everything, only those wines that truly move us each year. - Importer Note
