Tasting Notes
A crisp fruit salad of a bouquet underlined with a crisp salinity. Apple, pear, lime, grapefruit and kiwi fruit on the nose and palate, the aforementioned briny salinity backed by great acid makes this a wine that makes you wanting to go back for me after each sip. Drink this with a nice fillet of Barramundi. - Aaron C.
Picardy is a family-owned estate in Western Australia’s Pemberton region, founded in 1993 by Bill and Sandra Pannell—pioneers of Moss Wood in Margaret River—together with their son Dan. Drawn to Pemberton’s high rainfall, cool climate and gravelly soils, the family established one of the region’s benchmark vineyards, planted to Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet varieties. The vineyards are dry-grown and farmed with a focus on sustainability, producing fruit of natural balance and concentration.
In the cellar, the Pannells favour a restrained, traditional approach: hand harvesting, wild ferments, gentle handling, and judicious use of French oak. Their Pinot Noir, modelled on the great wines of Burgundy, has become particularly acclaimed, while the Chardonnay and Bordeaux-inspired blends reflect both varietal clarity and regional freshness.
Today, Picardy stands as one of Australia’s leading cool-climate estates, producing wines of elegance, structure and longevity, underpinned by a deep respect for terroir and family tradition.
