Tasting Notes

Never had a Listan Negro before but I am sure after this it won't be my last. Packed full of savoury spice and cracked pepper, gamey red meat and layered fruit… Even a bit of yellow plum. Fine tannin and so much minerality from the Volcanic soils. Loved it after a decant. - Pete L

Suertes del Marqués is a family winery that has been producing wines since 2006. However, our tradition as winegrowers dates back to twenty years ago that date, growing and selling our grapes to other wineries in the Apellation Valle de La Orotava.

Suertes del Marqués vineyards are located in Valle de La Orotava, a valley in the northern side of the island of Tenerife. The property is formed by 11 hectares of vineyards ranging from 300 to 750 metres above sea level, all of them with different orientations and soil composition. Moreover, Suertes del Marqués works another 15 hectares with vine growers of the area with vineyards with altitudes between 250-800 meters.

Centenary ungrafted vine stocks of black and white listan grapes compose most of our vineyards. Growned in “cordon multiple”, unique in the world training method, listan grapes coexist with other native varieties from young and old vines like Vijariego Negro, Baboso Negro, Castellana Negra, Malvasia Rosada or Volcanic Torrontés , growned in Cordon Royat, Trenzado or Bush system.

Without losing sight of the respect for tradition, cornerstone of our winery philosophy, in Suertes del Marqués we artificially interfere as little as possible in the production of our wines, so we work with indigenous yeasts, avoid racking and using only minimal amounts of sulfur in our wines.

All processes in the cellar are carried out by hand, from works in the vineyard to harvest. We avoid any systemic treatments in the vineyard, using only natural products when vine diseases eventually arise.

Our wines can be classified into three sections:

The ones we call Village wines, which come from various vineyard plots and others from the property, vinified separately and assembled prior to bottling. Within this line we have our wines 7 Fuentes, El Lance, Medianías and Trenzado.

The so-called Single vineyard wines, coming only from specific parcels located on the property known as Finca El Esquilón, which are vinified and bottled separately, giving names to wines such as La Solana, Candio, El Esquilón, El Chibirique, Los Pasitos and Vidonia.

Finally we also carry out two special vinifications called Suertes del Marqués Blanco Dulce and Tinto Dulce. - Winery Note
