Tasting of Wines That Have Excited Us
Saturday 12th
3pm-6pm
Join us this Saturday as we taste through some excellent value wines that have piqued our interest.
Luckily in our job we get to taste many wines from samples, to sales reps showcasing their portfolio and even some generous customers that might give us a taste before taking the bottle to dinner. All of this helps us to better understand the wines and their differences to be able to make recommendations to you more accurately. We've selected 5 wines below that all have a single bottle price below $50 that we were impressed with and thought more people should be drinking. These are the wines that we'll be pouring on the day.
Mount Horrocks Watervale Riesling 2024
Garagiste Le Stagiaire Chardonnay 2024
Shadowfax Macedon Pinot Noir 2022
Crudo (Luke Lambert) Shiraz 2022
Come down this weekend to taste some excellent wines at an excellent price!

Dessert Wines
Dessert wines are by far one of the most underappreciated styles of wine out there. Many people overlook them due to either price, not knowing when to drink them or unfamiliarity with the styles and don't realise that there is a whole unexplored world of excellent wines in this category.
It is true that many sweet wines can be expensive due to the labour involved in making them and the juice that is lost in shrivelled grapes for the final price to usually reflect a 375ml bottle rather than 750ml. However, there is still some excellent value to be found if you look outside of the top châteaux of Sauternes and many lesser known styles often punch significantly above their weight.
With Easter just around the corner, we thought this might be the perfect time to spread the word of these great dessert wines as you'll definitely have the occasion to drink them! Some of these wines and styles below may already be familiar to you, some less so, but we've made sure to select some exciting and fantastic value wines here so you won't be dissatisfied this Easter!

Tenuta Mazzolino
The story of Mazzolino started over 40 years ago when Enrico - the nonno of the current owner was seduced by the so-called “Pinot Noir hill” on his travels. With some help from two of his good friends, he got started with making the winery, seeing the potential in the white, chalky soils. Francesca Seralvo used to love visiting the estate as a kid to spend time in nature surrounded by ducks, chickens, donkeys and horses as well as roses in the gardens. When she received a call from her grandfather asking if she wanted to take over the winery, there was no hesitation whatsoever and Francesca has since led the estate from 2015!
The Mazzolino Tenuta lies in the heart of the Oltrepò Pavese controlled designation of origin area, on the right bank of the Po River in the hilly area close to the Apennines, along the 45th parallel. Lying on clay soils with steep slopes typical of Oltrepò Pavese, the Tenuta's crus rest deep on sometimes sandy substrates. A common denominator is the strong presence of limestone-chalk veins in which the roots sink in search of water and precious mineral microelements. They have 39 individual plots that are farmed organically with the aim of enhancing their respective expressions. No fertilizers are used. The ancient technique of green manure, according to which field beans, alfalfa and phacelia are sown between the rows is used, enriching the soil and protecting it from erosion and crushing. Nothing but copper and sulfur are used for treatments.
We picked up 4 of this Tenuta’s wonderful wines after tasting them the other week. The ‘20 ‘Pavia Blanc de Noirs’ is made in the traditional method with 36 months on its lees to create a complex, but still fresh expression of a blanc de noirs. The ‘23 ‘Camara Chardonnay’ comes from a vineyard with a nice eastern exposure at 180-220m above sea level. This is a seriously fresh and lively Chardonnay from limestone soils. The ‘22 ‘Bonarda’ is made 100% from the indigenous Croatina grape and has nice bright fruity flavours with nice tannins and acid. Finally, the ‘23 ‘Terrazze Pinot Nero’ is one of the icons of the region. This is an estate producing some wonderful, fresh expressions of grapes from a severely underrated region at a great price. Don’t pass these up!
