Tasting Notes
Rovellotti Colline Novaresi "Valplazza" Nebbiolo is sourced from the Valplazza vineyard in southern Ghemme and offers a luminous ruby robe. The nose leads with bright cherry and raspberry tones, subtly underlined by rose petal and forest floor aromas. On the palate, brisk acidity and gripping yet polished tannins deliver precision and tension, with lifted red fruit framed by a mineral edge. Elegant and poised, this Nebbiolo charms now yet has the structure and clarity to evolve beautifully over time. - Chris L
Rovellotti is a deeply rooted family-run estate in Ghemme, Alto Piemonte, with a winemaking tradition extending over six centuries and a steadfast commitment to the region’s soul. Managed today by brothers Antonello and Paolo, the family cultivates around 15 hectares largely in the Baraggiola subzone—arguably the best part of the appellation—comprising single-vineyard sites like Valle d’Enrico (Erbaluce), Valplazza (Nebbiolo for Colline Novaresi), Chioso dei Pomi (classic Ghemme Nebbiolo), and the revered Costa del Salmino (home to their oldest Nebbiolo vines used in Ghemme Riserva).
Rovellotti is recognized for its deep respect for tradition and environment—collaborating with the University of Milan since the 1980s to re-establish ecological balance and move toward zero chemical viticulture. The family vinifies in a mosaic of historic underground cellars, crafting wines with spontaneous fermentation, aging in large neutral oak vats, and subtle use of sulfur, all structured to allow terroir to assert itself naturally.
Their wines—ranging from expressive Ghemme DOCG and Colline Novaresi bottlings to noble passito and spumante styles—are celebrated for their layered complexity, energetic clarity, and capacity to express both place and lineage in every bottle.
