The Sangiovese grape has been grown in Tuscany for hundreds of years, with references to it dating back as far as the 16th Century. Now, however, it has spread throughout central Italy, where it is one of the most popular red wines, although outside the country it is more widely recognised in blends.

Due to their naturally high acidity, Sangiovese wines are designed to be drunk with food – as most Italian wines are. Typically, Sangiovese displays characters of sour red cherry and red berries, together with earthy, dried herb notes, and ripe, dusty tannins. However, as Sangiovese wines range from dry to sweet, it is not uncommon to identify notes of strawberry within their fascinating blends.
