Tasting Notes
Inspired by the great wines of Josko Gravner. The CLO Amber is an orange wine made from 100% Pinot Grigio grown by the Johansen family in Tumbarumba (700masl). The grapes were destemmed and fermented wild for two weeks undergoing four plunges per day over this period to develop flavour and texture. After 6 months the grapes were basket pressed and aged in old oak for a further 12 months before bottling unfiltered, unfined and unsulfured.
The Amber, an orange wine, is savoury and textural. Flavours of chamomile and earl grey tea, wild flowers, dried apricot and spice all in harmony with others developing as the wine opens. The palate is moderate-full in weight, finely tannic and remains fresh through its extraordinary length. A wine to savour and serve with food (salumi, pasta, pork). - Chris L
CLO is a micro-vigneron in NSW. Chris Loth sources fruit from growers in Orange and Tumbarumba, but also manages a vineyard of his own in Tumbarumba. The grapes are grown in high altitude vineyards of varying soil types and micro-climates, each yielding a unique character. The grapes are handpicked and fermented wild in a variety of vessels with out any additions. Elevage is at minimum 18 months before being bottled unfined, unfiltered and unsulfured. They are each full of character, as represented by the expressions on the labels, and are exciting and interesting drinks. Clean and stable too.
