Tasting Notes
Entranced, enigmatic and energetic.
I have a soft spot for Tumbarumba. This little-known region has a big heart, and at the center of its heart is Chardonnay. The Tumbarumba Chardonnay is grown above 700masl and planted on granite/clay soils. The grapes are handpicked and direct-pressed to old barrels where they mature for 18 months before being bottled unfined, unfiltered and unsulfured.
The 2022 Tumbarumba Chardonnay is elegant and complex, yet weightier than the 2021. Often deceiving, it moves between upfront finesse, a cuddly mid-palate and a savoury, mineral and textural finish. Pear, lime tart, green apple and wet stone. It’s long and evolving with time in the glass and pairs well with antipasto, seafood, poultry and pork. - Chris L
CLO is a micro-vigneron in NSW. Chris Loth sources fruit from growers in Orange and Tumbarumba, but also manages a vineyard of his own in Tumbarumba. The grapes are grown in high altitude vineyards of varying soil types and micro-climates, each yielding a unique character. The grapes are handpicked and fermented wild in a variety of vessels with out any additions. Elevage is at minimum 18 months before being bottled unfined, unfiltered and unsulfured. They are each full of character, as represented by the expressions on the labels, and are exciting and interesting drinks. Clean and stable too.
