Tasting Notes
From a 4 hectare, old-vine Gamay plot in Saint-Verand on dark granite soil. Fleshy blackberry fruit with a refreshing acid-tannin balance. Chill if you will. Delicious! - Chris L
Domaines Chermette, rooted in southern Beaujolais, is a visionary family estate led by Pierre-Marie Chermette, alongside his wife Martine and their son Jean-Étienne. Since 1982, Pierre-Marie has transformed the family’s small holdings and shepherded them into some of the region’s most expressive and terroir-driven wines.
The estate now spans multiple appellations—Fleurie, Moulin-à-Vent, Brouilly, Saint-Amour—focusing on Gamay from old vines planted on rare dark granite soils. The winemaking is traditional and natural: hand-harvested grapes, native yeast ferments, minimal sulfur, no chaptalization, and aging in old barrels that honour the purity of fruit and minerality of each site.
Domaines Chermette’s wines are celebrated for their structural depth, silky texture, and authentic sense of place—from joyful, floral Beaujolais to serious, layered cru expressions. With Jean-Étienne taking an increasingly active role, the estate is both honoring its legacy and evolving toward a more refined, age-worthy style.
