Tasting Notes
From a single vineyard plot in AOC Arbois close by to the Côteaux des Corvées slope. 60 year old vines on Marnes à Gryphées soil. Harvest by hand and slow horizontal hydraulic press into stainless steel for wild fermentation. Upbringing in old oak barrels from Meursault and bottled the following year without filtration and very little sulphur. Quite reserved right now, primary lemon and some ammonia reduction. It's really juicy with lip-smacking acidity that drives a long finish. - Greg Murphy
In the town of Arbois, sits this small Domaine run by husband and wife team Michel-Henri and Françoise Ratte. Vineyards have been in Françoise' family for generations but they have always sold their fruit off to different producers. Until now. In 2015 they began to produce wines under their own label, utilising some of the best terroirs in Arbois.
They own 9 hectares of vines from famed parcels such as Les Corvées, Clos Maire and Pré Levront. Vine ages are between 20-80 years old but there is still a small part of 100 year old Savagnin plants in Pré Leveron planted by Françoise' Great Grandfather. The vineyards have been farmed organically and using Biodynamic principles since 1989. Françoise believes that Biodynamics is the best way to grow quality fruit, and preserve the natural health of the vines.
A new cave has been built on the outskirts of Arbois, close to the vines, and houses all the large stainless steel vats where the wines are fermented. All fermentations are carried out using wild yeast, before being transferred to old Burgundy barrels for maturation. Nothing is added or taken away with these wines, creating very pure expressions of the Arbois region and terroir.
