Tasting Notes
This is the 6th vintage of our Reserve Gruner Veltliner which takes its inspiration from the Reserve style Gruners in the Kamptal wine region of Austria. Made from selected, hand-harvested riper grapes, this wine is 100% wild-fermented in neutral large foudres and old French barriques. The wine is then matured on the lees, in the barrels, for 11 months prior to bottling. After bottling, the wine is aged for several months in our cool underground cellar. It is not surprising that this Reserve-style of Gruner Veltliner readily emulates the delicious richness and complexity of top Burgundian white wines.
Full, voluptuous and complex on the nose, it is brimming with caramelised orange peel, lightly toasted cashew nuts and a hint of crushed tarragon. The palate has great presence, yet retains an exciting vibrancy with rich citrus, glorious texture and charming spice, plus a hint of mushroom-earthy complexity. It has a long tail with deliciously juicy acidity. Serve with roast chicken, duck and grilled pork, or your favourite sea-food including shellfish (lobster, crab, scallops) and excellent with spicy Asian cuisine. - Winemaker Note
