Tasting Notes
Aromatic, fruit-driven and slightly herbal with a real almond nutty charater. Great texture and length to the wine, balanced by acidity and fresh minerality. - Pete L
i Clivi is a family-run estate in Friuli-Venezia Giulia, founded in the 1990s by Ferdinando Zanusso and now run with his son Mario. Their 12 hectares of vineyards are spread across the hills of Colli Orientali and Collio, rooted in ancient flysch soils of marl and sandstone that impart a distinct mineral character to the wines. The focus is firmly on indigenous white varieties—Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Verduzzo and Malvasia Istriana—alongside small parcels of Merlot.
Viticulture is organic, with old vines (many over 60 years of age) farmed with minimal intervention to preserve natural balance. In the cellar, fermentations are spontaneous, sulphur use is restrained, and élevage takes place mostly in stainless steel on fine lees to highlight purity and freshness. The wines are celebrated for their delicacy, precision and transparency, expressing Friuli’s terroir with clarity rather than power.
i Clivi stands today as one of Friuli’s benchmark small producers, admired for crafting quietly compelling wines that honour the region’s traditions while embracing a philosophy of restraint and authenticity.
