Tasting Notes
A really lovely Grenache Blanc from Josep Grau in Montsant. It's aged in concrete tanks which helps retain freshness and adds a pleasing texture to the wine. There is a full kaleidoscope of citrus on offer complimented by wild white flowers and hints of green herbs like chervil and marjoram. It's mid weight and full of texture and would work so well with many seafood based dishes. - Pete L
Josep Grau Viticultor is the deeply personal and terroir-minded project of journalist-turned-winemaker Josep Grau, who in 2003 returned to his native Catalonia to cultivate wine as a reflection of place, unburdened by trends or fashion. He farms organically and biodynamically across two emblematic Catalan appellations—Montsant and Priorat—working with limestone, slate (llicorella), chalky clay, and decomposed granite soils that inform the distinct personalities of each vineyard.
Beginning with vineyards in Capçanes, Josep expanded his holdings in 2016 by purchasing a 17th-century house in Gratallops with six hectares divided across four single-vineyard plots—now the heart of his Priorat operation. He continues to work with old Garnatxa (Grenache), Carinyena (Carignan), Syrah, and Garnatxa Blanca, crafting small-production, site-driven wines with minimal intervention: native yeasts, low or no use of new oak, and a philosophy that celebrates purity, intimacy, and the unique voice of the vine.
Josep Grau’s wines have earned recognition for their elegance, freshness, and structural clarity—delicate yet powerful expressions that convey the mineral intensity and emotional resonance of Catalan terroir.
