Tasting Notes
Wow this was good. 100% Sangiovese but in a much lighter and fresher still that is more in tune with what people seem to be drinking these days. It still has enough fruit weight to stand up to a variety of foods, including the heartier ragus or braises you might associate with the region. - Pete L
La Magia is a family-run estate in Montalcino, established in the 1970s and now led by Fabian Schwarz, whose family originally came to Tuscany from Alto Adige. The property sits on the southeastern slopes of Montalcino at around 400–450 metres elevation, directly overlooking the Abbey of Sant’Antimo. Its vineyards are planted on soils rich in volcanic rock and galestro, conditions that bring both structure and aromatic lift to Sangiovese.
Farming is certified organic, with an emphasis on biodiversity and minimal intervention. In the cellar, vinification is careful and precise, with a mix of traditional large casks and judicious use of smaller barrels to frame, rather than dominate, the fruit. La Magia produces a focused range: Brunello di Montalcino, Brunello Riserva, and Rosso di Montalcino, each marked by purity, freshness and a strong sense of place.
The wines combine elegance and energy with the depth and longevity expected of great Montalcino, making La Magia a rising star among the region’s modern organic estates.
