Amarone is one of the most prestigious red wines of Italy. The Amarone style was developed as Valpolicella’s wine producers were looking for a way way to increase the body, complexity and alcohol of their wines, as the local varieties were aways considered a bit ‘weak’; the solution was the ‘appassimento’, naturally air drying.
This Amarone comes from the best grapes, carefully selected and then placed in ‘cassette’ where to dry naturally for about 120 days. After the ‘appassimento’ the grapes are pressed, fermented and aged in medium to large format barrels; not all the barrels will make it through the long ageing as only the best will be Amarone. An extraordinary wine, tied to Valpolicella’s traditions, traditionally off-dry, beautiful with age. Decanting this wine is recommended. - Importer Note
L’Arco is a passionate, small-batch winery nestled in Negrar di Valpolicella, one of the seven villages of the Valpolicella Classico area. The estate was founded in 2001 by Luca Fedrigo, who spent years working closely with the legendary Quintarelli before launching his own project. The name “L’Arco” reflects the historic stone arch (Arco di Giove) near his family’s farmhouse in the hamlet of Santa Maria.
Spanning just seven hectares, the vineyards are planted to traditional Valpolicella varieties—Corvina, Rondinella, Molinara—alongside select non-native grapes like Sangiovese Grosso and Cabernet Franc. Luca has farmed organically since the early 2000s, rejecting herbicides and pesticides, and crafting wines with minimal intervention and only sparing use of sulphur. He handles nearly all the vineyard and cellar work himself, ensuring an intimate connection with every bottle.
L’Arco is celebrated for producing wines of rare elegance, energy and purity—vinified with remarkable precision and expressive clarity. Across his range—Valpolicella, Ripasso, Pario, Rùbeo, Amarone and Recioto—Luca’s wines convey a profound sense of place, blending traditional technique with a modern sensibility rooted in respect for terroir.
