Tasting Notes
What a find this was this year. A 2009 Barolo from the famous slopes of Vigna Rionda for $124.95, which is serious value! Pira is a favourite here. They're techniques are traditional and old-school so you can expect plenty of structure and savoury character in this wine. Either drink and enjoy now or watch this wine develop further over the next 20 years. It's up to you! - Chris L
The wine-making process of Barolo Vignarionda takes place in horizontal fermentation tanks with temperature control for 12-15 days. The wine matures over 24 moths, partly in small wooden barrels and partly in large wooden barrels. Intense garnet red color. The nose is complex, elegant, with hues that range from wild berries to sweet tobacco and to deep and enticing balsamic notes. In the mouth this wine is rich, balanced and with an extraordinary persistence. - Winery Note
Less is more! Minimal intervention or Lo-fi wines encapsulate those producers who keep additions and manipulations to a minimum during the winemaking process. This means the wines are wild fermented, unfiltered and unfined, and only add sulfur during the process.
