You know quality wines deserve decanting and time to open, and here’s why. Took this to dinner as a back-up; but you just know there will be tears of blood if it’s not shared around. At opening, smell some classic shiraz notes - cocoa, tabacco leaf, leather hints with black fruits. Taste the power and grip in the dark fruits, even with your rich pork belly dinner. But no, it’s not adding to the experience; better re-cork and try later. 24 hours later - Wow, here’s a delicious slurp-able mouthful of medium bodied, dark fruited and savoury shiraz finishing with fine chalky tannins. 13% alc. Rewards for waiting! - Michael L
Maxime Graillot no longer stands in the shadow of his celebrated father. Today he has the senior winemaking role at Domaine Alain Graillot and is carving out his own place in the history of the Northern Rhône. Naturally he is best known for the outstanding wines that bear his name and it is those that we offer here. The latest releases from Maxime’s own vineyards compare very favourably with those from his father’s, ignoring obvious stylistic differences. Displaying an intensity and minerality as though they were a birthright, the leitmotif in Maxime’s wines is juiciness, freshness and poise. It’s a quality that is setting them well on the way to becoming regional benchmarks, if they are not already. - Importer Note
