Tasting Notes
Muzard Burgundies have come a long way in refinement since we first visited the family in Santenay in 2005 with our friends (Italian fluent, with a dab of French talk - and we didn’t understand any French!). It was a great memory. So, what’s changed?
The vines are now about 20 years older and showing the benefit in tannin ripeness and elegance. More refined too. Savoury reds always at Muzard. This may be their base red but it’s so good. Smell soft spices; taste red fruits and more refined tannins. 12.5% alc. A fine introduction to Santenay and Muzard. - Michael L
Lucien Muzard's sons, Hervé and Claude now run the domaine. They are the ninth generation of a family that can trace its lineage in Santenay back to 1666. While they respect traditional wine-making practices, they also keep an open mind to modern changes in viniculture. In the vineyards they have greatly reduced grape yields to intensify flavour. In the cellar they have eliminated fining and only filter when strictly necessary. This is a source of spotlessly pure great value Burgundy.
